About Our Gardens

All of our raised garden beds were hand constructed by members of our community garden.  The boxes are made of FSC certified knotty cedar.

THE EDIBLE GARDEN - by Greening Sacred Spaces

This video shares information about our garden from initial concepts to fruition. Thank you Donna Lang and Catherine Lang.

Main Bed
Our main and largest bed is approximately 24' x 10'.  It is in full sunlight throughout the day.  It is comprised of a central section that will host many tomato plants along with peppers, eggplants, garlic, onions, leeks, marigolds, swiss chard and a three sisters garden which is Native Canadian companion planting method for corn, beans and squash.
The West Crib is a strawberry patch accompanied by rhubard, spinach and borage while the East Crib will hold peas, cucumbers, dill, zucchini, radishes and marigolds.

Accessible Bed

Constructed in a 'U' shape this bed is 8' x 5' and is 2' high.  It will be home to lettuces-red leaf, green head, meslun, turnips, carrots, beets, kale, herbs, arugula and nasturtiums.

The design for this bed was greatfully found on the internet and while still in the process of making access easier via a small path, it has been made to be accessible by wheelchair, walker or by a person sitting on a chair.  Many people would love to garden but are not able to perform the physical tasks required of many gardens.  It is our desire to work to include everyone by encouraging ways for people to participate within their means.

5' x 6' Bed

This bed will be used primarily for brassicas, brussel sprouts, broccoli, cabbage-red, green and napa, baby bok choi and mustard greens as well as celery, nasturtiums and marigolds.  It is showing great promise already.  Like the accessible bed and the 4' x 5' bed it is shaded in the morning but receives wonderful midday and afternoon sun.
4' x 5' Bed

Our smallest bed this year will be used to grow watermelon, parsnips, nasturtiums, marigolds and a pumpkin grown from the seed of a 1000lb prize winning pumpkin from Prince Edward County.  We are honoured to have been gifted such a seed however our pumpkin won't get quite that big since we don't want to use too much water but we do hope that it will grow big enough to mke plenty of pumpkin pies to go around!

Front Herb Garden

At the front of the church in the Southeast corner is a traditional open bed this bed has been repurposed into an herb garden.  It gets great, direct light in the morning but not the blazing heat of the afternoon sun.
