Vegetable Gardening

An idea instigated in 2013 our vegetable garden came to fruition in 2014.  A small initial experiment showed us that we could indeed grow food and share it and we wanted to do more.  Thanks to a grant from the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation allowed us to form a large garden and offer it's

Composting & Rainbarrels

The next steps to help reduce our carbon footprint will be the installation of rain barrels and a composting system.  The rain barrels will help us to save rain water to water the gardens and the composting system will allow us to take care of our garden waste and some kitchen waste to  create compost and nourish the gardens naturally.

Bees, Butterflies and other amazing Bugs

May of the flowers we plant are not only planted for their beauty but also because they attract and encourage pollinators.  Bees and butterflies abound in the gardes.
We encourage the native milkweed growth to help Monarch butterflies.  Planted in the gardes are bee favourites borage, calendula, rudbekia, lilies, roses, flox, daisies and so much more.   Working with the hum of happy bees is a wonderful experience.

Solitary Pollen Bee Nest

In a safe, sheltered location we also encourage our solitary little friends to live near the garden in a solitary bee "hotel".

While solitary bees are important for plant pollination, their numbers are declining due to a loss of suitable nesting locations. This nest provides a safe place to lay their eggs, helping to boost the local population of these beneficial, nonaggressive bees.

To read more about the amazing benefits of bees here is a wonderful article.
