QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT THE GARDEN

 

 

  

Who can join?  Anyone in our community is welcome to join.

 

How to join? Come to one of our work days.

 

Where is the garden?  The garden is on the grounds at Morningside-High Park Presbyterian Church at 4 Morningside Avenue on the corner of Morningside Avenue and Kennedy Avenue in Swansea.

 

When do we meet? Tuesdays 9:30-11:30am, Thursdays 6pm-8pm (until the days shorten and then we'll meet 5pm-7pm), Sundays 11:30am-1:30pm(give or take depending on church service).   

 

Do I have to pay anything?  No.

 

Do I have to come every meeting time?  No.  Come when you can.  The more often you can come to help makes work easier for everyone involved.  We will set up a schedule so you can sign up for days when you'll be available.

 

 

Is the produce organic?    We use only organic seeds and only natural remedies to tend the garden.  

 

What happens to the vegetables grown?   Produce is split amoungst those who volunteer in the garden, church members and local food banks/Evangel Hall Mission.

 

Can we bring children?  Yes, definitely.

 

How can my older children/teenagers be involved?  Youth are encouraged to come to help in the garden.  They can help with gardening or come to water the garden when needed.  

 

Can my teenager get volunteer hours for school by working in the garden? Yes, the church can provide a letter stating the number of hours a high school student has worked towards their community service hours.

 

Is there anything I can do to help other than actual gardening? Yes!   We need people to water the gardens, record harvest weights, write articles for the newspaper, come and chat in the garden,  build things for the garden, collect seeds and store and package them, deliver produce to food banks and much more.  Let us know what your talents are and what you would like to do.  There is a place for everyone.

 

Who started the garden?  The garden was started by members of the Morningside-High Park Presbyterian Church.

 

Do I have to come to church services or belong to the church to belong to the community garden?  No.  The garden is open the all members of our Swansea community.
